Newest Obsession: Home Decor Blogs
Lately I’ve been really interested in home decor blogs. I’ve started some folders on my desktop of house inspiration, even though I still have years until I will own my own house. But I can’t help but dream… I’ve been really interested in light fixtures for some reason. And these two lights are absolutely incredible. They are both retro yet modern. The rooms are...

Fashion meets comfort?
In the fashion world, one never compensates fashion for comfort. Yet it seems that that now is the trend. The key to pulling off this not-so-popular trend is to choose somewhat stylish sneakers. In the case of Susie Bubble, she chose ones that complemented the colors in the rest of her outfit. Bright colors are essential. Designer brands, like Nike, also help. It’s a fine line to walk with...

Innovation at Akris
Certain designers have really exhibited innovation recently. Mary Krantzao constantly pushes the envelope by using Photoshop to create the most mind-blowing, beautiful prints. Now, the designers behind Akris are using photography to create patterns. The pieces themselves are simple silhouettes in beautiful bold colos. This is the perfect canvas to merge photography and fabric. The designer...

The Season of the Patterned Pant
For once, it seems that the off-the-runway trends are matching up with the on-the-runway trends at the same time. Prints are huge this season. But the most common manifestation of these is through patterned pants. All throughout the runway collections, from sporty lines like Alexander Wang to feminine versions like Erdem, the pants are being seen. The three main styles are large flowers, small...

Prep-School Inspired
These preppy, structured leather purses are all the rage off the runways. In bright colors, they make a perfect final touch to any outfit. They’re also simple enough to go with anything, yet interesting enough to still be cool.

Grrr
Thanks to Givenchy’s last collection, animals seem to be the biggest trend off the runway. Personally, it’s a great trend to see because you don’t have to buy a Givenchy sweater to pull off the trend. Thrift stores like Goodwill or Salvation Army always carry tacky animal clothing for less than $5 each.

Bringing Sweetness Back at Prada Spring 2012
Although most of the collection wasn’t anything I’d wear, I really admired the work of Miuccia. She took a word that is so feared in the fashion industry – “sweet” – and made a collection that broke away from all of its preconceived notions. Dozens of references from the 50’s were spread throughout the collection to create looks that were slightly retro, but...

Sorbet-Flavored Color Palette
A key element of any collectionis the color scheme. So often, it can make or break the looks. Phillip Lim hit the mark for his Spring 2012 collection by opting for a delicate, sherbert-like palette. As opposed to all of the neon bright colors in every other runway, these soft colors are very fresh and energizing.

Doin' It Yourself
Since I have been unsuccessful in my hunt for a school bag, I’ve decided to DIY some bags. These Michael Kors bags are a perfect DIY project because all they require essentially is some hemp fabric and a piece of leather. The material is really strong which is necessary for my 5 ton school books. And the earthy materials exude a quirkiness that will make my bag not blend in to the dozens...

The Up-and-Coming
Over the past few seasons, a couple new designers have emerged onto the scene. Their talent is a little underrated, probably why I like them so much. They each have very different aesthetics, that I’ve seen evident in each collection. Unfortunately, their Spring 2012 collections are not appearing to be their strongest collections yet, but nevertheless, they’re still strong. Jenni...

It's Back
Fashion Week - my favorite week of the year - has started again.  Unfortunately, the clothing on the runway is preparing us for Fall as I’m scouring stores looking for coats and boots to keep me through the not-too-cold LA winter. But regardless of the timing, fashion week is always exciting. I’ve never been to an actual show, but with technology, it’s incredible how much I can...

It’s been months. And for that I apologize. I’ve put a halt on my blog for several reasons. For one, I disliked the direction my blog was heading. I had stop putting energy into my posts and simply uploaded pictures with a tiny blurb. I started this blog two years ago as a way to express my feelings, emotions, and thoughts on style and fashion – not just to post pictures. When I...

Caught In A Braid
The newest hairstyle seems to be a messy braid clipped up to the head. This trend used to seem like a childish hairstyle. But as the Olsens, Sienna Miller, and Blake Lively have all been caught sporting this trend, it’s apparent that it really is not at all just for kids. Although I’m sure this look isn’t easy to do at all, there’s a certain messy ease to the look....

Pretty in Pink
It’s common knowledge now that Gossip Girl is just as popular for its fashion as it is for the actual content. While I do love the complicated plotlines and tangled romances, my main motive for tuning in each Monday night is the beauty of this show, particularly the fashion. My personal style is a lot more similar to Blair’s than to Serena’s. Yet, the whole cast is always...

A Fresh, New Approach
I’ve never copy-and-pasted another person’s blog post or writing onto my blog, nor have I ever even reblogged something before (and after this post I hope to keep it that way). However, I think that the author of Her Ribbons and Bows really captured what I feel, my response to these images, and the new leadership of Vogue Paris.  Read and enjoy! It’s rare that I post...

Coachella 2011 Style
Within the past few years, Coachella has gone from being a hotspot of music to a hotspot for style. Sure, the music is the initial reason the people go, but what people wear and who snaps their photo ends up being more important than who actually played. This year, I didn’t find the fashion to be as great as years in the past. The Coachella style usually introduces us to summer trends,...

Dreaming of Houses
Clearly I don’t own my own house yet, but it’s never too early to start dreaming. There doesn’t seem to be many similarities between the different houses/rooms, but I do tend to like bright colors and graphic prints. Also, there seems to be a lot of old mixed with new.

Backwards Inspired
When I saw this photograph of the woman captured by The Sartorialist wearing a backwards sweater, I was immediately reminded of the Marc Jacobs collection. For Fall 2010, Marc Jacobs (who always knows how to confuse his audience) sent backwards cardigans down his runway. From the front, it just looked like a high-necked sweater. From the back, a row of mismatched buttons stood. There was a...

Floral Jumpers for Summer
Floral jumpers are the perfect look for summer. They need barely any styling since this one piece is the whole look. They’re good for the summer heat because they’re loose and airy. They can be dressed up or down just by a simple choice of shoes and jewelry. The two jumpers above, by See by Chloe and Steven Alan, are my personal favorites of the trend, but I’m sure within the...

J.Crew or Jenna Lyons ?
There’s no doubt in my mind that Jenna Lyons, executive creative director of J.Crew, has impeccable style. Her look is preppy meets edgy, filled with both androgynous army jackets and feminine lace blouses. Her style is the epitome of what J.Crew is, which comes to no surprise since she is the main designer. Yet, I always get a little weirded out when designers make the models of their...

I don’t know who this model is, and I don’t know any of the brands that she is wearing, but that doesn’t seem to make a difference. Her look is completely elegant and classy. Usually, you see lace & denim, or denim & sweaters, or lace & sweaters, but she took all three looks and combined them together. Together, it is a very delicate look that is balanced nicely by...

Watch Me
I know this was seasons ago, but this is still one of my favorite jewelry looks. We’ve seen watchfaces as jewelry dozens of time, but there’s something very avant-garde about the piling of the faces and the chunky metals. The clashing metals too (gold, silver, and black) usually makes me cringe, but for some reason it works really well here. Personally, I think that if you can go...

ClipArt
Sometimes a new hairdo is all one needs to change up their look. Instead of dying your hair neon or getting a bob, a smarter, simpler alternative is to add a hairclip. It not only adds visual interest, but it can change the way your hair looks by one effortless task. Some of the Spring/Summer runways featured models with hairclips. So clearly it’s the new alternative to radical hairstyle...

Alexander Wang Doodle Print
For the Spring 2011 collection, Alexander Wang and his team introduced a new concept for their collection –– the doodle print. The design was a “collective effort of introverted expression forming an ‘unconscious scribble’”. The design was eventually used in 6 different looks. It took me until now to realize the beauty and amazingness of Alexander Wang. These scribbles...

The Maison Moschino
I rarely post about architecture or interior design, but the Maison Moschino is too incredible not to post about. I first saw pictures of this hotel when the idea was still being hashed out. The house of Moschino has long been a favorite of mine for just ignoring the rest of the fashion world and never really being in tune with...

Finding Style on Those Rainy Days
This post is slightly delayed, especially since there are no signs of rain in the future and the sun has been beating down on our backs for the past few weeks. But I’ve been meaning to do this post for some time.  I’m someone who loves the rain, but dreads dressing for it. I hate raincoats, hoods, rainboots, and until recently, jeans too. The One and Only Anna Dello Russo
I know I’ve already posted about Anna dello Russo several times before, but I can’t help but be in awe of her style. Although anyone will look laid-back compared to her, she demonstrates what it means to push the envelope and take risks....

Admiring Jil Sander
It’s taken me quite a few editorials and blog posts to realize how much I admired Jil Sander’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Raf Simons introduced a new take on minimalism and a wonderful use of 3D-esque fabrics.  This cover is nothing special, in terms of the model, the pose, the setting, or even the styling. Yet, whoever the stylist was knew that this dress speaks for itself and...

See by Chloe Summer 2011 Collection
See by Chloe is one of my recent favorite brands. It manages to make beautiful clothing that is both chic but also wearable. This season, they seemed to be inspired by the ballerina-inspired looks from their runway and the sporty-girl-look. See by Chloe never does anything...

History Repeats Itself
We all know that trends repeat themselves, but I couldn’t help but notice how similar this editorial from the 80’s portrayed current trends. For starters, the combat boots look identical to anything you’d see from Steve Madden. And then the flower-print dresses are also something that any current-day hipster would grab off the shelf at a local Salvation Army. The fact that the...

Thinking of Summer
As summer approaches, it’s time to start envisioning your sunny-weather wardrobe. It’s a little hard considering the fashion world is already long past summer and well into fall. Yet, this year I’m hoping to shift away from...

Pajamas for Pants
One trend I’ve never quite understood how to execute is the slouchy, pajama pants. The difficulty with this look is that if it goes wrong, you look like you forgot to get dressed that morning. I think that a key element is purchasing the right pair of slouchy pants, like the ones above. They can’t be too “pajama-y”, like checkered or flannel, rather a silky, patterned...

White Dresses of Summer
A common trend for summer is the sheer white dress. The dress evokes an innocent, laziness that can really only be seen during summer. This editorial of Katrin Thormann by Horst Diekgerdes for Harper’s Bazaar UK did an excellent job of capturing the beauty and delicacy of the white summer dress. Most of these are Dolce & Gabanna since they created a series of soft, feminine white dresses...

Topshop Trend Report For Summer
Each summer, there are some basic trends that appear. The main trend that has surfaced so far is the loose, airy dresses that became popular towards the end of last summer. Topshop added onto that idea with a few new trends for summer. Bright white, layers, wide stripes, tie-dye, and color clashing were amongst some of the trends predicted for this upcoming season. Personally, I think that the...

Fashion Week is often the best time to spot up-and-coming names in the fashion industry, both on and off the runway.  This past fashion week, there were a few pairs of sisters that made their way onto just about every single street style blog and fashion magazine. But my favorite were Sama and Haya Abu Khadra, 16-year old twins, who came to the shows as buyers for their mother’s store back...

Isaac Mizrahi Fall 2011
This collection has been my utmost favorite from Fall 2011. I’ve looked over the collection a dozen times since I first saw it and could never figure out how exactly to write about it. Chanel Jumpsuits
Unfortunately, this past collection was not Chanel’s strongest season. Concerning presentation – yes it was very dramatic and theatrical. Yet, I did particularly like the two jumpsuits (onesies? jumpers? not sure what the right word...

LF "Fearless Future" Spring 2011 Collection
When I saw this ad campaign for LF, I couldn’t help but think of the Free People collection I posted about yesterday. Other than the similar manners of styling, the trends in both are so similar. J.Crew Masters the Revival of the Classics

Stripes in Spring
As shown in this editorial for Harper’s Bazaar US, stripes is the trend for this Spring. According to this, bright, bold, and thick are all adjectives that describe this look.
